When I started this website I swore to myself never ever to loose a word about technology. Not to write about bodies, lenses, software and all the other stuff. Not to be a geek, not to fall prey to the gear-acquisition- or the gear-talkabout-syndrome.

Things change. I wrote a rather lengthy article about the latest in the Analogue-Wars. About the opinion some people using geeky internet forums try to promote that digital photography sucks and real men use film in order to produce pure art in a way it can’t be done with digital equipment.

I laid out the state of the discussion. I considered the arguments. I weighted, discussed, heard. I was fair.

I found this does not fit here. Things can be said short.

Analogue photography is nothing else that a pain in the ass. It sucks. Those who want to work with 19th century technology may do so. I won’t. I am proud to say that I never shot a full film in my entire life. I will not start now. Using outdated technology does not make art.

The picture has, as always, nothing to do with the text but all the ties the models ware are mine. This is just a note.

I confess – the picture has little to do with this text except for the fact that both are related to music. I know this must sound hilarious to every decently educated of the few (four or so) readers out there, but for the first time ever I just happened to listen to the song “Summer Night City” (1978) by ABBA. As far as I could google, this is the ABBA song most disliked by all fans of the band. They plainly hate it because it is not the pure thing, not just typical Sweden-Pop but has a groovy Disco-Bassline (hey, see, the pic!) and a very danceable groove.

I’ll tell you something: this is the freakin’ greatest Song they’ve ever made. Turn on your favourite shop-software, invest 99ct, download that thing and don’t go to sleep for the next three nights. Get fired by your boss. Don’t care. Have fun.

Music gets you jumping

Do you share that feeling that music is no longer as important as it used to be? There were times in my life when I would sit for hours listening to the radio ready to push the “record”-button to catch *that* very song. It’s no longer like that anymore.

I wondered whether I simply got too old (beyond 30!) and therefore miss a thing there. But that does not seem to be the reason as the falling turnovers in the record business teach.

Thank God there are people who still carry the flag and to whom it *is* important not just to consume but actually to create music. And being with those enthusiastic people at least I realize: music still makes us jumping.

Call me a Calvinist, it may be true. But dining, drinking, smoking, dancing, seducing, basically all kind of fun is so much more rewarding if they actually *are* a reward, follow an achievement. Let’s celebrate if there is something to celebrate, and if there is not, change that.
